SCC President and Dean to speak at International Conference and visit German Education Institutions

Dr. Annette Parker, President of South Central College (SCC) and Marsha Danielson, SCC Dean of Global Outreach and Strategic Partnerships, will present at the International Congress on Vocational Education and Training, which will be held in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spainfrom May 28 – 30. The Spanish government is covering Parker and Danielson’s round trip airfare, as well as all expenses while the two are in Spain.

At the International Congress, Parker and Danielson, along with other industry and education leaders from the U.S., will speak about the Workforce goals and initiatives of the national Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP). Parker is co-chair of AMP’s Workforce Workgroup and Danielson serves on the AMP Operations Committee. “We are honored to have been asked to present on the important work of AMP,” said Parker. “During our three days at the International Congress, we also look forward to learning more about other global workforce education practices and exploring international partnerships,” said Parker.

Parker and Danielson are making the most of their European visit by also traveling to Germany from May 21 - 26 to further educational partnerships there, as guests of two German higher education institutions.

They will first visit the Carl-Severing Vocational College for Metal and Electrical Engineering in Bielefeld, Germany to meet with college leadership and sign a Renewed Memorandum of Understanding for the colleges' existing Exchange Program. The Exchange Program enables students, faculty and staff from SCC and Carl-Severing to travel to one another's institutions to build educational, cultural and global awareness.

Parker and Danielson will also visit DEKRA University in Berlin, Germany to meet with officials about a potential partnership between South Central College and the university. SCC’s programs in graphic communications and multimedia technology align particularly well with DEKRA’s programs. Faculty at both SCC and DEKRA have previously reviewed each other’s curriculum, so the meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss next steps.

“We are excited by the opportunities these international educational and industry partnerships can bring to our students by broadening their understanding in their field of study, as well as their appreciation for different cultural perspectives and interest in global issues,” said Danielson.
