President Keith Stover commented on the new technology that has recently been added to the college, “SCC has an enduring commitment to the employers in our region, and we have allocated significant resources to provide state-of-the-art technology to assist us in preparing for the next generation of our workforce.”

The college will announce the addition of a new Engineering Foundations A.S. degree that will begin accepting students Fall Semester 2012. The program is designed to transfer to a 4-year bachelor’s program.  The Engineering Foundations major will cover the courses required in the first two years of most engineering disciplines. A key factor for student success is the creation of a fabrications lab (Fab Lab) to allow SCC engineering students to have access to equipment and instructors to assist in working on solving practical problems.  “We are extremely excited about the potential for this new major and our articulation agreement with Minnesota State University Mankato,” stated Dr. Suzanne Nordblom, Dean of Academic Affairs for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  “We believe that the Fab Lab will provide additional assistance to engineering students to gain understanding of the theories taught in class by doing experiments in SCC’s Fab Lab.” (Engineering Foundations Degree information attached.)
