About the North Mankato Foundation
South Central College Mankato Campus Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization designed to support the students and programs of South Central College's North Mankato Campus. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of area volunteers, including SCC alumni.
Each year the Foundation enlists the help of volunteers from the community to implement the major fundraising initiatives included in our Annual Campaign, which encompasses all of our fundraising efforts throughout the year. Our community-wide Annual Fund Drive commences each fall, along with our Insiders' Campaign for faculty and staff members, and a fundraising dinner and Golf Classic are held each spring. Thanks to the generous community-wide support for these initiatives, the Foundation awarded $195,000 in scholarships to 307 deserving SCC students in the spring of 2008. Our Scholarship Awards Presentation will be held in August 2008, and funds will be disbursed at the start of fall semester. Photos from last year's awards presentation can be found at http://southcentral.edu/galleries/scholarship07/ . In addition to funding scholarships, some contributions are used for instructional equipment and faculty/staff development, and some are added to the Foundation's endowment where the principal remains in perpetuity, and earnings are used to fund SCC's scholarships and programs.
Annual Fund Drive
October 4, 2007 marked the beginning of the 2007-08 Annual Fund Drive. Alan Kiefer, President of United Prairie Bank, served as this year's Fund Drive Chair, and the following individuals led the nine teams of volunteer fundraisers: Mike Brennan, Brennan Construction; Marcia Bahr, Alltel Wireless, Bonnie Barrer, Pepsi Cola of Mankato, Joe Frederick, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, Candy Laven, South Central College; Mark Novak, CenterPoint Energy, Jay Thompson, Wells Fargo Bank; Terry Treanor, and Julie Vetter, Community Bank. "A Solid Foundation for Tomorrow's Success" is our theme, as we work together to raise funds to support the scholarships and programs of South Central College, providing students with the support they need to achieve their goals.
SCC Extravagance Fundraising Dinner
The SCC Extravagance Fundraising Dinner, formerly known as High Tech Temptations, is held each spring to raise funds for the scholarships and programs at SCC. This fundraiser allows SCC's Culinary Arts students to demonstrate their skills, while participants revel in the spectacular dining experience. Extravagance 2008 was held the evening of March 27. The setting was very different this year, designed to give participants an insider's view of SCC's Liberal Arts and Sciences program. Liberal Arts instructors, conducted live demonstrations, adding an exciting new element to the event. Live and silent auctions were held, and a raffle rounded out the evening.
Event sponsors included Kato Engineering (Title Sponsor), Mankato Clinic (Ambience), Taylor Corporation (Invitations), Leonard, Street & Deinard (Auction), Paulsen Architects (Champagne), I & S Group (Wine), Hy-Vee (Raffle), United Prairie Bank (Appetizer) and LJP Waste & Recycle (Dessert).
Extravagance 2009 is scheduled for Thursday, March 26. Please mark your calendars!
Golf Classic
The SCC Golf Classic, held each year at the Mankato Golf Club, is another important fundraiser for the college. A record $27,000 was raised at the 14th Annual Golf Classic, held May 19, 2008. Many area businesses provided generous sponsorships for the event, and we had more hole sponsors than ever before! One-hundred golfers participated. Activities included a silent auction, live auction, and raffle. New this year was a GOLFishing Contest sponsored by Johnson Outdoors, Inc. In addition, Mankato Implement and J. Long's sponsored a putting contest again this year, with a grand prize of a $500 J. Long's gift certificate. Dinner sponsors for the event were MICO, Inc., Kato Engineering, Leonard, Street & Deinard, E.I. Microcircuits, Snell Motors, and I & S Group; US Bank and A. H. Hermel Vending & Wholesale Co. sponsored the carts; local utility companies BENCO Electric, HickoryTech, Xcel Energy, CenterPoint Energy, Charter Communications, and Alltel Wireless sponsored lunch; Valley Bank was our Auction Sponsor, along with Brad Buscher; and Scheel’s, Hy-Vee, Elite Steaks ‘N’ Chops, Contessa, and BENCO Electric sponsored in part the prizes that were awarded to the winning teams. Many additional businesses and individuals contributed prizes and auction items for the event.
The 15th Annual SCC Golf Classic is scheduled for May 18, 2009 at the Mankato Golf Club.
