About the North Mankato Foundation

South Central College North Mankato Campus Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization designed to support the students and programs of South Central College North Mankato Campus.  The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of area volunteers, including SCC alumni.

Each year the Foundation enlists the help of volunteers from the community to implement the major fundraising initiatives included in our Annual Campaign, which encompasses all of our fundraising efforts throughout the year.  Our community-wide Annual Fund Drive commences each fall, along with our Insiders' Campaign for faculty and staff members, and a fundraising dinner and Golf Classic are held each spring.  Thanks to the generous community-wide support for these initiatives, the Foundation awarded over $189,000 in scholarships to 300 deserving SCC students in the spring of 2007.  Our Scholarship Awards Presentation was held the evening of August 30, 2007, and funds were disbursed at the start of fall semester.  Photos from the awards presentation can be found at  http://southcentral.edu/galleries/scholarship07/ .  In addition to funding scholarships, some contributions are used for instructional equipment and faculty/staff development, and some are added to the Foundation's endowment where the principal remains in perpetuity, and earnings are used to fund SCC's scholarships and programs.

Annual Fund Drive

October 4, 2007 marked the beginning of the 2007-08 Annual Fund Drive.  Alan Kiefer, President of United Prairie Bank, is serving as this year's Fund Drive Chair, and the following individuals are leading the nine teams of volunteer fundraisers:  Mike Brennan, Brennan Construction; Marcia Bahr, Alltel Wireless, Bonnie Barrer, Pepsi Cola of Mankato, Joe Frederick, Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar, Candy Laven, South Central College; Mark Novak, CenterPoint Energy, Jay Thompson, Wells Fargo Bank; Terry Treanor, Winland Electronics, and Julie Vetter, Community Bank.  "A Solid Foundation for Tomorrow's Success" is our theme, as we work together to raise funds to support the scholarships and programs of South Central College, providing students with the support they need to achieve their goals.

SCC Extravagance Fundraising Dinner

The SCC Extravagance Fundraising Dinner, formerly known as High Tech Temptations, is held each spring to raise funds for the scholarships and programs at SCC.  This fundraiser allows SCC's Culinary Arts students to demonstrate their skills, while participants revel in the spectacular dining experience.  Extravagance 2007 was held the evening of March 22.  The setting was very different this year, designed to give participants an insider's view of two of SCC's most popular technical programs: Auto Body & Collision Technology and Computer Integrated Machining.  Student Ambassadors from these programs, along with their instructors, conducted live demonstrations, adding an exciting new element to the event.  A live auction with unique, experiential packages was held, and a raffle rounded out the evening.

Event sponsors included Mankato Clinic (Dinner), Country 103, 93 KXLP, and The FAN, Mankato 1230 AM, a division of Clear Channel Radio (Advertising), Leonard, Street & Deinard (Ambience & Entertainment), Paulsen Architects (Champagne & Appetizers), Austin's Auto Repair Center, Inc. (Dessert), Hy-Vee (Raffle), I & S Engineers and Architects (Wine), Taylor Corporation Companies (Invitations), and United Prairie Bank (Auction).

Extravagance 2008 is scheduled for Thursday, March 27.  Please note the date change.  Thank you!

Golf Classic

The SCC Golf Classic, held each year at the Mankato Golf Club, is another important fundraiser for the college.  A record $25,000 was raised at the 13th Annual Golf Classic, held May 21, 2007.  Many area businesses provided generous sponsorships for the event, and we had more players and hole sponsors than ever before!  One-hundred and thirty-three golfers participated, and we had a full complement of 36 hole sponsors, including sponsorships for greens and tees. Activities included a silent auction, live auction, and raffle.  New this year was a Putting Contest sponsored by Mankato Implement and The Knight's Chamber, with a prize of a $500 Knight's Chamber gift certificate.  Dinner sponsors for the event were MICO, Inc., Kato Engineering, Midwest Wireless, US Bank, and Leonard, Street & Deinard; Wells Fargo and A. H. Hermel Vending & Wholesale Co. sponsored the carts; local utility companies BENCO Electric, HickoryTech, Xcel Energy, CenterPoint Energy, Charter Communications, and Midwest Wireless sponsored lunch; Valley Bank was our Auction Sponsor; and Scheel’s, Hy-Vee, and Elite Steaks ‘N’ Chops sponsored in part the prizes that were awarded to the winning teams. Many additional businesses and individuals contributed prizes and auction items for the event.

The 14th Annual SCC Golf Classic is scheduled for May 19, 2008.
