CBI launches customer friendly online registration tool

Center for Business and Industry clients can now register for non-credit open enrollment courses quickly and easily via Augusoft’s Lumens Professional (LP) web-based tool.

Among the many capabilities of the online registration tool are the following:

  • Convenient twenty-four hour registration access - no more mailing,
  • faxing or scanning registration forms!
  • Secure online payments via credit card.
  • Clients will receive an electronic class confirmation as well as an automatically generated receipt for payments!
  • If a class is full, our new system allows clients to be added to a waiting list and notified when an opening occurs.
  • This convenient new tool makes it easy for CBI to notify clients of changes in room locations/dates/times as well as class cancellation.

To access the new online registration system, from CBI’s web site cbi.southcentral.edu , go to the Register tab and click on Search for Courses.

A special thanks and congratulations to project manager, Mary Ellen Fleming, and the members of her task force, for a great job of planning and implementation of the Lumen’s application at SCC.

Health Support Specialist Program Coordinator/Instructor Hired

Meghan_Coleman_005_optPlease join me in welcoming Meghan Coleman as the new Center for Business & Industry Health Support Specialist Coordinator/Instructor. Meghan comes to South Central with over 20 years of experience in the health industries. As clinician and administrator of a chiropractic wellness practice in Mankato, Meghan developed business knowledge, enjoyed her role as health-educator, and followed a person-directed approach to care-giving.

The Center for Business and Industry will be playing a vital role in one of the five Department of Labor Healthcare Grant programs. Meghan will coordinate the Health Support Specialist (HSS) program and teach the courses which consist of 9 credits taught over 7 classes or 144 hours of training. She will also be assisting industry partners to fulfill the required apprenticeship component. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a Registered Apprenticeship Health Support Specialist Certificate from the State of Minnesota Department of Labor.

Under this new person-directed care environment, the HSS Registered Apprenticeship Program creates a blended worker model and training curriculum specifically for the aging services field. This new occupation provides a career ladder for frontline workers utilizing classroom training in combination with on-the-job learning.

CBI Program Review Recommendations Received

On December 14-15, 2010 Learning Resources Network (LERN) conducted a program review to measure the effectiveness of South Central Colleges Center for Business and Industry. The LERN Program Review matches CBI up to customized training and continuing education industry benchmarks and has now provided specific, practical recommendations for the team to consider. The program review analyzed CBI programming; marketing, sales, and operations. LERN consultants will continue to work with the CBI team on the details of some of the recommendations and to develop effective business and strategic plans.
