SCC Hosted State Fire/EMS Rescue School March 3rd and 4th
The annual State Fire/EMS training drew more than 850 firefighters from around the region, mostly volunteers, to the SCC North Mankato campus. Classroom instructions as well as hands-on learning exercises are designed to help firefighters master the split-second decisions needed to save lives. Two special features this year included the Active Shooter and IED Response course and the course on How to Deal with Community Emergencies.
The Active Shooter presentation included analysis of case studies and discussion regarding the fire department, firefighters and fire chief’s role within the Unified Command System used during active shooter incidents.
The How to Deal with a Community Emergency course included discussion regarding community management of devastating natural disasters like floods and tornado.
