Emergency Notification: Be the first to know

Star Alert, a free South Central College emergency notification system, makes it possible for students and employees to receive notice (cell phone and/or e-mail) of campus-related emergencies that threaten life safety or severely impact campus operations.

By default all students and employees will receive STAR Alerts to their SCC email account. If you'd like to receive emails to additional accounts, voice message to telephone, text message to your cell phone, or TTY message you should log into the system and adjust your account preferences.

To register:

  1. Link to the SCC Star Alert web page
  2. Click “Sign Me Up!”
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to set up your password.
  4. You’ll receive an email with a confirmation link to finish the registration process.
  5. Sign in with your email address and password.
  6. You will be taken to a “Find contact” screen when logging in for the first time. Enter your Identification code which is your Star ID and click submit.
  7. Then, enter your SCC email address and click submit.  The system should report “Great, We found a contact…”
  8. Click “associate” to begin setting up your personalized information.

Here are instructions with screen shots on how to log into the system for the first time.

If you ever want to cancel the service, return to the SCC Star Alert web page and unsubscribe.

Staying informed and safe
In an emergency, Star Alert will send a text message to the cell number(s) and/or e-mail address(es) you provide. Notifications identified as “Star Alert” messages will note the nature of the emergency, what action, if any, you are to take, and where to find more information. Star Alert also will let you know if campus is closed or if classes are delayed or cancelled.

Star Alert notification is in addition to any message sent to all South Central College e-mail addresses when there is an emergency. Depending on the nature and severity of the emergency, other mechanisms may include alerts on the South Central College web site, voicemail messages on campus phones, TV monitor/digital signage, and public address messaging. In emergency situations, an important resource for information is always the South Central College web site.
