Program Course Substitution
Request Procedure / Form

Students may request course substitutions be allowed for the program that they are completing, but only in cases where there is substantial evidence that the substitution is equivalent in nature and maintains the academic integrity of the program.

Requests for substitution must be completed, including final approval for it, the semester before the substitution is going to take place. Requests not made at least one semester prior to the substitution will not be considered.

Requests for substitution will be reviewed by the Academic Deans and Dean of Student Affairs twice a semester during the Fall and Spring semesters: no later than October 15 and December 15 during each fall semester (for a substitution to take place during the spring semester) and February 20 and April 15 during the spring semester (for summer or the following fall semester substitutions).
The request with all supporting material will be initiated by the student and will be forwarded to the appropriate academic dean by a faculty member. The academic dean will then bring the request to a dean’s meeting by the dates indicated above.

Checklist of Required Documents for Substitution Request
Requests for substitution must include the following:
____ DARS Report for the student indicating the correct program and catalog.(attached)
____ Rationale that the substitute course meets  75% of substituted course outcomes (attached)
____ Common Course Outlines of the required course and the substitute course (attached)
____ Copy of student’s South Central College transcript
____ Other supporting material


Any request that does not include all of the first four items and does not meet the deadlines will not be considered for substitution.
